New monsters have arrived in Monster Hunter Now as part of Dec. 2023’s “Fulminations in the Frost” update.

The four monsters — Radobaan, Banbaro, Barioth, and Zinogre — will not appear in the wild right away, similar to the monster list at launch.

This page explains how you can expand your monster roster — and some caveats when encountering Barioth and Zinogre in future.

How to unlock new monsters in Monster Hunter Now

To unlock the new monsters in Monster Hunter Now’s “Fulminations in the Frost” update, you must complete steps in a seasonal storyline as part of a series of Special Quests.

To find the “Fulminations in the Frost” questline, visit the Special tab on the quests screen, and see the steps at the very top, above the list of Daily quests. This is separate to the main story, which will continue to highlight the launch roster of monsters, and can be resumed at any time.

As part of these quests, you’ll encounter the four new monsters. Once you have fought Radobaan, Banbaro, and Barioth as Urgent Quest encounters, they will then spawn on the map.

The exception is Zinogre, who can only be encountered as part of an Urgent Quest on its debut, before reappearing as part of the Hunt-a-thon feature rolling out from Friday, Dec. 15.

A final note is that Barioth is a seasonal spawn, meaning it will disappear from the game as part of the March update. Though not confirmed, it’ll likely reappear again next winter.

As you progress through the new quests, make sure you experiment with new weapon types Dual Blades and Lance, also introduced in the “Fulminations in the Frost” update.
